Study journey of an Adult Nursing student

Louise Whitley, Adult Nursing student here Wrexham Glyndwr University, has opened up about her studies in the hope to aspire future nursing students.

Her learning journey began during the pandemic when she unfortunately lost her job in engineering. Louise decided to re-focus her career path and help others within her community. She obtained the role of a domiciliary care worker, and her mind was made up, a career in healthcare was for her.

It was working here, with community and district nurses, where Louise became inspired to take the next step and enrol onto our degree in Adult Nursing.

Louise says the reason she chose to study with us is because the university is “close to home and has an excellent reputation.” So far, she is absolutely loving the course, and the location.

Louise describes the degree as “informative and interactive.” She loves her lectures each week and finds the subjects they explore “so interesting.” She has found the staff to be helpful, organised and approachable, and highlights that “they are there for you every step of the way with anything you need to know.”

We loved hearing that she has made some good friends along the way too and that she has enjoyed the facilities on campus. She said that “the university is clean and bright and has everything you need to study comfortably with a Costa and cake.”

Our Nursing degrees give you the option to undertake an elective placement during your studies, which will help you build up real-life work experiences.

Louise is just at the beginning of her study journey but upon the completion of her degree, aspires to become a district nurse. We have every faith in her that she will achieve this role.

She is now encouraging other applicants to follow in her footsteps and suggests Wrexham Glyndwr University as the place to study, if you want to “follow your dreams in a nursing career.”

Louise is a mature student as well as a working single parent and therefore, believes if she can do it, then anyone can.

We appreciate that achieving a work-life-study balance can be a potentially daunting prospect but believe that higher education should be available for everyone.

From our inclusion services to our wellbeing advisors and specialist support, we have dedicated teams available to you throughout your studies.
