Cookies Policy

What are cookies?

A cookie is a small file which helps your web browser navigate through a particular website. The cookie can then be read back later by the web browser as required. The use of cookies is a convenient way of allowing a computer to remember specific information relating to a website which has been visited. This cookie data can then be retrieved and can allow us to customise our web pages and services accordingly.

How does Wrexham University use cookies?

Session cookies

The University website will primarily set session cookies. Session cookies allow websites to remember information from page to page, so the user does not have to input that information more than once. A prime example of when session cookies are used is during a purchase from an internet shop – a session cookie would be used to remember what the user had put in their basket so that it would be carried through to checkout.

Session cookies will normally be deleted by your browser when the browser is closed.

Analytics cookies

Some parts of this website use Google Analytics which also place cookies on your computer. The information generated by these cookies about your use of this website will be transmitted to and stored by Google.

The University will not use the statistical analytics tools to track or to collect personally identifiable information of visitors to this website. The University will not associate any data gathered with any personally identifying information from any source as part of our use of the statistical analytics tools.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics cookies to hold information about your visit to our site. This helps us better identify the use and popularity of our services and how successfully the website is functioning.

If you do not wish us to do this, you can opt out of the Analytics service by installing an extension for your browser. Alternatively you can delete/restrict the cookies as for any other cookie.

Hotjar analytics

We use Hotjar to help us understand how users navigate around individual pages on our website and to create surveys to gather user feedback. Find more information on cookies and data privacy from the Hotjar website.

Cludo

We use Cludo, a third party analytics platform to help us provide better search results for our users

Azorus

Wrexham University uses Azorus which is our Customer Relationship Management platform (CRM). It is hosted at be.wrexham.ac.uk. We use the CRM for data storage, direct marketing, event management, profiling, and reporting. We use Contractual as a Lawful basis for sending system emails which are triggered by event bookings, form completions or information imported from a 3rd party enquiry system, such as UniBuddy.

More information on their privacy policy can be found here.

Cookie-like technology

Our third-party CRM provider "Azorus" may use cookie-like technologies from time to time, like web beacons, SDKs, pixels (or “clear gifs”) and other tracking technologies. They automatically place single-pixel gifs, also known as web beacons, in every email sent from Azorus. These are tiny graphic files that contain unique identifiers that enable Wrexham University and Azorus to recognise when our Contacts have opened an email or clicked certain links. These technologies record each Contact’s email address, IP address, date, and time associated with each open and click for a campaign. Azorus use this data to create reports for Wrexham University about how an email campaign performed and what actions Contacts took.

Live chat

Wrexham University uses third-party live chat software provided by Chatify. Wrexham University use the service to respond to direct live chat enquiries. To improve your user experience, cookies are used to remember if you have submitted information previouslyMore information on their privacy policy can be found here.

External web services

When you visit wrexham.ac.uk you may notice some cookies that are not related to the University. We use a number of external web services on the University site, mostly to display content within our web pages. For example, to display videos we use YouTube.

We also use a number of Google services, including Calendar and Maps. This is not an exhaustive or complete list of the services we use, or might use in the future, when embedding content, but these are the most common.

As with the social buttons, we cannot prevent these sites, or external domains, from collecting information on your usage of this embedded content. If you are not logged in to these external services, then they will not know who you are but are likely to gather anonymous usage information eg number of views, plays, loads etc.

Social buttons

On some of the site's web pages you will see ‘social buttons'. These enable users to share or bookmark web pages. There are buttons for Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.

In order to implement these buttons, and connect them to the relevant social networks and external sites, scripts from domains outside the University are used. You should be aware that these sites are likely to be collecting information about your internet browsing, including on the University's site. So, if you click on any of these buttons, these sites will be registering that action and may use that information. In some cases, if you are logged into their services, these sites will be registering the fact that you are visiting the University's website, and the specific pages you are on, even if you don't click on the button.

You should check the respective privacy and cookie policies of each of these sites to see how exactly they use your information and to find out how to opt out, or delete, such information.
