Entry requirements & applying

Please note: the course is not open to international students.

A health related undergraduate degree of 2:2 or above is required for this course. Additional qualifications needed include:

  • Certificated evidence of completion of general education for 10 years
  • 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including English, Maths and evidence of IT skills

A portfolio of evidence which enables you to include and demonstrate prior graduate learning is needed. This may include knowledge, skills, values, caring behaviours and care experience equivalent to one year of a nursing programme, through 500 hours of theoretical and 500 hours of practice learning (these verified hours will form part of the mandatory 2,300 theoretical hours and 2,300 practice learning hours).

You will be required to complete all of the part one ‘All Wales Practice Assessment Document’ prior to commencement of the MSc Nursing degree during the 500 practice hours, and as part of the requirement you will need to identify a placement area (clinical/voluntary) which can support the verification of the 500 practice hours together with names of a practice supervisor and practice assessor.

A literacy task will be conducted online prior to the interview. The literacy task is a written activity focussing on the professional values of the nursing profession. You will then be interviewed face to face on an individual basis where you will be required to answer some short questions to ascertain your knowledge and experience about a career in nursing. The interview team will comprise university academic staff and either a Trust staff member or service user.

Attending a selection event does not guarantee a place on the course, so we recommend preparing beforehand to give you the best chance of success.

Before you are offered a place on this course you will be required to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance (previously known as CRB), and pay the appropriate fee, so that a check can be made on your suitability for working with children and vulnerable adults.
