The module aims to educate falls champions to use tools and processes to support falls prevention and management from admission through to discharge. This course will deliver key information which will help students understand and reduce the risks of people falling in hospital and at home.

This course will:

  • Support students in their delivery of care, assessment of risk and importantly, reduction of falls risks
  • Support students’ learning throughout and will encourage them to apply their learning to practice
  • Enabling students to become a falls champion in their clinical environment

Students will be given a range of homework tasks throughout the learning weeks and will contribute to online fora in which they will be expected to discuss progress and innovative practice in their area. Students should expect to study at home for several hours each week in between their study days in order to support their learning. Students will be expected to perform a falls analysis over time in their workplace.

Entry requirements & applying

The only entry requirement is that you have a passion for reducing risk of patient falls in your clinical working environments.

Teaching & Assessment

Teaching will be both online and face to face, with lead lectures delivered by specialists in the field.

You will be supported throughout by the module leader and the wider university support networks including library services and study skills staff. You will apply your knowledge to practice and undertake a practical assessment of your clinical environment, assessing it for risk of patient falls.

The online multiple choice exam will assess your learning.
