Why choose this course?

The module is aimed at those considering studying or who have an interest in expanding their knowledge of Allied Health Professions (AHPs). Students will be provided with an insight into the values and scope of these professions and how they work collaboratively as part of a wider healthcare team.

What you will study

The course will be delivered over 8 weeks as follows.

  1. Professional Practice - Introduction to the course contexts and settings, values, behaviours and ethics in healthcare (asynchronous)
  2. Introduction to Physiotherapy – Overview of working in the profession, qualifications, training and career opportunities (synchronous)
  3. Introduction to Nutrition and Dietetics – Overview of working in the profession, qualifications, training and career opportunities (synchronous)
  4. Introduction to Speech and Language Therapy – Overview of working in the profession, qualifications, training and career opportunities (synchronous)
  5. Introduction to Occupational Therapy – Overview of working in the profession, qualifications, training and career opportunities (synchronous)
  6. Introduction to Paramedicine – Overview of working in the profession, qualifications, training and career opportunities (synchronous)
  7. Introduction to Operating Department Practice – Overview of working in the profession, qualifications, training and career opportunities (synchronous)
  8. Summary of Module and Assessment – Careers and employability skills for AHPs and guidance for written assessment 2 (asynchronous)

Teaching & Assessment

Assessment 1 - 17th November 2021 (week 4) – online quiz

Assessment 2 - 15th December 2021 (week 8) – reflective statement

Students are expected to reach 40% on the assessment.
