Children’s nursing is a rewarding profession caring for children, young people and their family from birth to young adulthood. At Wrexham Glyndwr University we will prepare you with the knowledge and skills to become a graduate and NMC registered children’s nurse.

- Have a personal tutor who will support and guide you in your personal and professional development.

- Split their studies 50/50 between clinical practice and theory. Practice placements in a variety of hospital and community settings enable you to experience a range of learning opportunities. Support in placement is by practice supervisors and assessors along with an academic assessor and practice education facilitators.
- Study family-centred and child-centred care throughout te course. Child field specific learning from the beginning gives you the opportunity to learn about the care needs of children, young people and their families, along with shared learning between child, adult and mental health fields of nursing on common themes relevant for all.

What you will study
Your theory sessions will be delivered using a variety of learning and teaching methods utilising a blended approach, considering Wrexham Glyndwr University Active Learning Framework, including lectures, problem-based learning, asynchronous discussions, seminars and skills acquisition sessions.
Access to virtual learning environments such as Moodle and Safemedicate - a learning package to assist in the development of numeracy skills and medicines management, are integral features of your learning. The programme builds in terms of academic level and professional responsibility as it progresses throughout the three years enabling you to become more self-directed in your learning with an emphasis towards the end of your programme on leadership and development as a registered nurse.
YEAR 1 (LEVEL 4)
In year one you will focus on the fundamental care skills required to practice as a caring, kind, compassionate professional who values and respects the individual needs of the patient, family and carers.

In year two you will focus on law and ethics, care of the acute and chronically ill child, research and child-centred care.

In year three you will focus on managing change, empowering children and family/carers, applied bioscience for complex care and personal and professional development to prepare you for becoming a registered nurse.

Typical UCAS Offer: 80-112 points
Equivalent to A levels BBC or equivalent, BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma DMM, Access to HE Diploma, along with GCSE grade C/4 or above in English and Maths (or equivalent)

An offer of a place is subject to satisfactory interview criminal records declaration (DBS/Disclosure Scotland) and health check.
This course is not currently available to those requiring a Tier 4 visa to study in the UK.
Teaching & Assessment
You need to achieve a minimum of 2300 hours theoretical and 2300 clinical practice to enable registration as a children’s nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
You will be assessed by a variety of methods including:

Teaching and learning

A children's nursing qualification opens many doors and enables you to develop your career in a variety of organisational settings. These could be in world famous children's hospitals, general hospitals, independent sector settings, community settings and children's own homes.
Fees & funding
This is a Welsh Government Bursary-commissioned programme.
A full NHS bursary, including tuition fees and a non-repayable bursary for living costs, is available for this programme providing you agree to work in Wales for two years after registration (subject to change).

Subject to validation and accreditation
Courses shown as “subject to validation and accreditation” are new courses which are in development and the details of these courses are in the process of being finalised through the approval cycle, known as the ‘validation’ process. These courses are also in the process of applying for accreditation/recognition by external bodies, known as PSRBs – Professional, Statutory and Regulatory Bodies, which is a separate external approval process with the relevant PSRBs.
As soon as the programmes are validated and accredited the details of the course will be confirmed. The majority of new courses that are still ‘subject to validation and accreditation’ are approved as expected however, this is not guaranteed and should the course not go ahead as planned, or be significantly amended, you will be informed by the university and assistance will be provided to those who have been offered a place to find a suitable alternative course either at Wrexham Glyndwr University or at another provider.
