The Education Outreach Team value establishing and maintaining relationships with teachers, sixth form / college staff and careers advisers.

The team provide information, support and guidance to teachers and careers advisers involved in pre and post-16 education. We also offer a number of engaging and topical opportunities for staff regarding the changes to the sector, as well as Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

The following talks and lectures can be provided to teachers and careers advisers on request:

  • An introduction to child and adolescent mental health (For school staff only) This workshop will provide a whistle-stop tour of some key concepts in the field of child and adolescent mental health. Going back to basics, there will be lots of opportunities to ask questions, reflect on your own practice and think about the small things that you can do to make a real difference.
  • What is a whole school approach to health and wellbeing? (For school staff only) ‘Health and Wellbeing’ is one of the six Areas of Learning and Experience in the Welsh Curriculum 2022, and the value of a whole school approach to health and wellbeing has long been recognised. This workshop will explore the topics of health, mental health and wellbeing and how they can be a promoted in a school setting, with a view to benefitting pupils, teachers and the whole school community.
  • Self-care and resilience for practitioners (For school staff only) School staff are a cornerstone of wellbeing support for children and adolescents, providing a wealth of advice, guidance and pastoral care. But how often do we stop to consider our own wellbeing needs? This workshop will consider ways to build resilience both as individuals and as a community of colleagues.

We also offer a variety of short courses that are suitable for the continued professional development of staff. These include:

  • Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing in Education Settings
  • Sports Coaching: PE and School Sports
  • Future Leaders

For further information about these courses and the others available, please see our full list of short courses.

We offer an annual Careers Adviser Day to raise awareness of the current curriculum portfolio and provide up-to-date guidance on progression into Higher Education. This can also be offered to teaching staff within schools and colleges.

“I found the Careers Adviser Event at Glyndŵr invaluable for my role. Having the opportunity to engage with members of staff from a range of courses and relay questions to course specialists that I know our customers have been asking, was incredibly useful... being able to tour the facilities and accommodation, as well as speak to current students at the University, provided an insight into student life at Glyndŵr that cannot be gauged from just looking at a website or university prospectus.”
