Following qualification as a children’s nurse I was fortunate to develop my passion for neonatal nursing within my first post on a special care baby unit. From this I was able to extend my knowledge and undertake additional qualifications in neonatal intensive care nursing. I was fortunate to become a community neonatal sister and support families within their own homes. This enabled me to continue my journey of lifelong learning and become a specialist practitioner in children’s community nursing. From this I had dual role as a community children’s nurse and a specialist nurse in paediatric dermatology. Within my dermatology role I obtained my independent prescribing which enabled me to run nurse led clinics for children and young people. I enjoyed these roles, but my passion remained within neonatal nursing and an opportunity arose to develop a neonatal palliative care service for a children’s hospice.
Prior to joining Wrexham University, I was a lecturer and programme lead for Children’s nursing at Bangor University. To help me relax and unwind (and keep me fit!!) I will be found out walking my two adorable dogs in all weathers!
