Vicky Davies

Senior Lecturer in Dietetics

Wrexham University

Following completion of my clinical academic training, I began my career as a state-registered Dietitian in 2007. My early positions were within the acute care setting, providing nutritional support to hospital inpatients with a range of clinical conditions, including respiratory disease, cardiovascular disease, oncology, gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery. During this time, I was working towards my master’s qualification in Nutrition and Dietetics, which I completed in 2011.

Since 2015, I have been working as the Clinical and Professional Lead for Nutrition and Dietetics at the Walton Centre in Liverpool, specialising in neuroscience and critical care. I am responsible for the operational management of the dietetic service which provides nutritional support to inpatients with neurological conditions. I am also the Lead Trainer for Dietetic Clinical Placements, working in close partnership with the University of Chester to deliver the clinical academic training of both undergraduate and postgraduate student Dietitians.

Within my clinical specialist role in neurocritical care, I was appointed as Development Officer for the Committee of the Critical Care Specialist Group of the British Dietetic Association. This position provided the opportunity for me to collaborate with senior Clinical Specialist Dietitians to lead national policies and developments on behalf of the UK’s Association for Dietitians. The role also provided opportunities to present nationally at conferences and other forums.
As my position at the Walton Centre became part-time in 2017, I took the opportunity to explore my interests in education through this current part-time position at Wrexham University, which I began in December 2017. In this role, I am supporting the development of new nutrition modules within the Department of Sport and Exercise Science.

My extracurricular interests align with my work, particularly with regards to health and fitness. I enjoy many outdoor pursuits. With a strong passion for food and drink, I also enjoy cooking, baking and developing new culinary skills. Outside of my working hours, I am a Dietetic Consultant, performing nutritional assessments for private clients to meet their health and performance goals and developing new resources and technologies.
