Amanda Williams

Amanda is an MA Education student at Wrexham University. 

What were you doing before coming to Wrexham University?

I have been in the post of a Primary Headteacher since 2004 and was looking for a masters’ course to improve my current skills, knowledge and practice.

What were you doing before coming to Wrexham University?

I chose to study for an MA Education at Wrexham University, in part because of its location, but also because I could study part-time over three years, making it achievable whilst working.

What surprised you most about studying it?

I was surprised by how much the course content stretched my professional knowledge and thinking, developing the skills I needed to interpret and appreciate educational research at a deeper level. The research and study activities were relevant to my post, which gave me the opportunity to improve my practice simultaneously, and the lecturers were all very supportive.

How have you benefitted from studying at Wrexham University?

Now that I’ve completed the course, I have the confidence to challenge and explore educational research, as well as a greater understanding of a wider range of educational systems and frameworks. I’ve built up positive networks with other professionals and can now support others considering graduate and postgraduate study.

How do you think your course will help you in your career?

Importantly, I feel empowered by the skills I have acquired to improve the strategic leadership of my school and have gained the confidence to take on the role of Chair for the Primary Headteachers' Federation in Wrexham. 

I feel honoured and grateful that I was able to study at Wrexham and be part of the learning and growth of this establishment. I feel very proud of my achievements.
